Email jrosengarden@mac.com with any question, problem or suggestion. You can also use Contact Developer on the app’s About screen, which opens a message already addressed to me. I aim to reply within a few days.

When reporting a problem, it helps to include:

• your Mac model and macOS version
• the app version, shown on the About screen
• what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
• if it happened during a game, the FEN or PGN of that game

User guide

The full user guide is built into the app: choose Help > JCE Chess Studio Help from the menu bar, or open the Game Menu, choose About, then User Guide.

Common questions

Does the app need an internet connection? No. Everything, including the chess engine, runs on your Mac.

How strong is the computer opponent? JCE has skill levels from 0 to 20. Level 0 plays like a beginner of about 700 rating; each level is a little stronger, and level 20 is JCE at full strength. Hints and position scores always use full strength.

How do I bring in games from elsewhere? Choose File > Import Game Files… or drag .fen and .pgn files onto the app’s window.
